There will be a pre-season football jamboree scheduled for August 14, 2010. This is also a fund raiser for The Ronald McDonald House. All three fields at Shouldice Park have been reserved. Click to view the schedule.
Play will start at 10:00 AM to roughly 4:00 PM. Teams will be allowed to start warming up on the field at 9:30 AM. There will be no locker rooms available for your teams during the Jamboree.
Each team can expect to play in 3 separate 50 play controlled scrimmages with no kicking game (25 offensive and 25 defensive downs per team). Each offensive series will last 10 plays with the ball being placed on the 45 yard line going in. If a team scores a touchdown the ball is placed back on the 45 yard line. Referees will keep track of the amount of plays. Turnovers are blown dead once the defensive maintains possession of the ball. Each “game” should last roughly 30-45 minutes. Quarterbacks are not live in the pocket. The play will be blown dead once they are tagged. Coached are permitted on the field (defensive coaches please be advised to keep your head on a swivel.)
Due to the costs associated with officials and training staffs each team will be expected to pay a $10/player entry fee. Payment should be made to Calgary Minor Football Jamboree. Please give cheques to Craig Reardon and /or Al Cooper on the Saturday of the Jamboree. There will also be a gate admission of $2.00.
Each team is required to supply one silent auction item, all questions regarding these can be addressed to Darcy Andres at darcyandres@shaw.ca or by phone at 403-660-6182.
We would like to strongly encourage you to reach out to your communities, and small businesses in your area to see if they would like to be a part of this great cause. Sponsorship is $250.00 and this will get them
Please be reminded of the “spirit” of this jamboree. For some, this will be their first exposure to organized football and we would like to make this experience a positive one for all involved.
If you have any comments or questions please feel free to contact Charlene Winget at cwinget@shaw.ca or Al Cooper at coachcooper18@hotmail.com.
We look forward to an exciting and valuable football experience.

Re: Shouldice Athletic Park and the Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association
I am writing to you as the president of the Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association to make you aware of the situation regarding the construction of artificial turf fields at Shouldice Athletic Park. The installations of these artificial turf fields will greatly enhance the athletic experience of Calgary’s minor football players, coaches, parents and spectators in Calgary, as well as benefit Calgary in general. The initiator of this project is the Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association (the “Association”). The Association is comprised of representatives of 10 Calgary football organizations.
The Association was incorporated over four years ago to address a dire need that exists in Calgary with respect to the lack of safe, reliable, playing surfaces in Calgary, specifically, artificial turf fields. For the past four years, the Association has been working diligently to raise funds for the installation of three artificial turf surfaces at Shouldice Park and for the construction of new grandstands, press boxes, scoreboards, lights, an entry plaza and overall improvements to Shouldice Park (the “Project”). After completion of the Project, Shouldice Park will be the best minor football complex in Canada. After much work, dedication, commitment, many setbacks, and endurance, the Project is almost a reality. However, we need your support to fully complete the Project.
We are grateful to all our all our sponsors. Our major donors are the City of Calgary, the Province of Alberta, the Government of Canada, Ted Hellard, the Calgary Stampeders and Encana Corporation. Because of their generous contributions, the main field will be named the “Hellard Field”, the east river field will be named the “Stampeder Field” and west river field will be named the “Encana Field”. Others have provided funds and we are grateful for their accumulated significant contributions. However, there is still a lack of funds to fully complete the Project (approximately 2 million dollars). Without this funding, the Project will not be completed.
Therefore, we are soliciting support from the football community, the biggest benefactors of the Project. We encourage you to participate on our seat sponsorship initiative. You can contact Greg Peterson at gregory.peterson@gowlings.com or Dave Harty at djh2222@shaw.ca to do so. We also encourage you to introduce us to any possible potential larger donors. There are still naming rights available for large donations. In that regard, please contact Greg Peterson at gregory.peterson@gowlings.com or Tony Spoletini at tonyspoletini@spolumbos.com.
The Project will be in the construction phase for the entire 2009 football season and beyond, until sufficient funds are raised to complete the Project. Until the Project is completed and during the construction of the Project, we require everyone’s cooperation. We thank you for your support and cooperation and we look forward to completion of the Project.
Sincerely,
Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association
